The Program Dialog Box - How To Program a Turtle


This little program simply tells the turtle to setsh "bird1" which means to dress itself with the shape "bird1", and then to fd 2 - move forward 2 units.    Then the turtle is told to setsh "bird2" which is this shape: and move forward 2 fd 2.    Because the Many Times button is selected, the process repeats itself over and over again until you stop it.

This creates a pretty red bird flying across your screen, magically going behind the monitor and flying across again, wings flapping realistically.

Your child can build this little program one day, the next day drawing the background of the sky and maybe a town.    Then cars moving along the street and people shouting and walking, and all along this pretty red bird is flying across the screen.

I don't care how old you are, being able to do these things so easily is FUN!

After working on such a scene, 20 minutes here, 15 minutes there, after a few weeks your child has developed something that is pretty amazing.    Something that will give the child a well deserved sense of accomplishment.
